Shaikha Al Mazrou
Sculptural Artist
UAE-born Shaikha Al Mazrou is considered to be among the most dynamic and promising artists of her generation. Her sculptural experimentations and investigations are expressions of materiality - articulations of tension and the interplay between form and content. Shaikha received her MFA in 2014 from the Chelsea College of Fine Art, University of the Arts London. Prior to that, she studied at the College of Fine Arts and Design, University of Sharjah where she is currently a Sculpture Lecturer. She is renowned for combining and evolving ideas from contemporary artistic movements similarly preoccupied with formal and material elements, from colour theory to geometric abstraction.
Shaikha Al Mazrou is represented by Lawrie Shabibi Gallery.
Commissioned work with Capsule Arts
“Where Mountains are Domesticated” (2022). Two resin sculptures for AlUla International Airport, KSA.
Artist Shaikha Al Mazrou was commissioned by Capsule Arts to create two sculptures for AlUla International Airport’s executive terminal. These pieces were placed either side of the terminal entrance bringing the archaeological elements and architectural motifs of AlUla closer to the viewer. The artworks, both completely in resin, have a deep brick orange colour reminiscent of the rocky landscapes. The pieces talk to each other in perfect harmony while communicating the overall grandeur of the amazing façade of the archaeological wonders of Hegra, highlighting their aesthetic motifs.
