Ana Zanic
Fine Artist
Ana’s art practice is an exploration of visual elements, as well as her personal feelings, through an intuitive, spontaneous process. Often reminiscent of imaginary landscapes, her watercolour paintings evolve through layers of washes with an emphasis on mark making.
There is a quiet tension between the watercolours fluidity, softness and calm, versus the dynamic, rhythm and energy of drawing. The spontaneous and gestural activity of mark-making in her work is closely tied to calligraphy, language and symbolic communication. In her process, she sees a metaphor for the duality of life; where certain things can be controlled, while others happen spontaneously.
Commissioned work with Capsule Arts
Guestroom Artwork.
Waldorf Astoria Kuwait.
Ana Zanic was commissioned to create artworks for the Guestrooms and Suites of the Waldorf Astoria that were inspired by the connection between the past, present, and future of Kuwait. Her pieces represent the relation between the land and the water, with large brush-controlled marks of neutral watercolours representing the land, and layers of blue washes indicating the sea. The final layer of amber and brown drops accompanied by elements of controlled ink mark-making is a nod to the past through the stories of celestial navigation used during seafaring.
