Dubai Art Season 2022 Review

Art was in the air over the past week in Dubai. It continues to blow through over the rest of the month with the now dubbed “Dubai Art Season”. The energy, enthusiasm and vibrance returned to Dubai and it felt like pre-covid art vibes. Everywhere you went you bumped into familiar faces you hadn’t seen for a while. Our team members visited various openings across the city and gathered some snap shots and thoughts you can see below.

Art Curator Nadine Khoury visited Alserkal Avenue for Gallery Night. The galleries exhibited their top exhibitions spanning a variety of mediums including video, sculpture, photography and more. Additionally, Alserkal collaborated with UAE Unlimited to curate an exhibition featuring a group of artists that was extremely captivating. The highlight of the openings was seeing the exhibiting artists in attendance this year.

Up next, Art Consultant Lourdy Ghorayeb ventured to the downtown galleries. Newly opened Kalimat Gallery works with artists to take calligraphy from a 2D form to 3D, and was exhibiting works by Syrian artist Akil Ahmad and Omani artist Saleh Al Shukairi. While next door at The Foundry, we came across a solo show of Emirati artist Mohammed Al Qassab’s intricate artworks.

The team then made their way to Art Dubai which returned to its original Madinat Jumeirah location. This year, in additional to the annual contemporary and modern sections, Art Dubai added a Digital section in keeping with the market trends of NFTs.

Also in keeping with the NFT market trend, Christie’s had a curated section at their space in DIFC. In the same area, Tabari Art Space exhibited young Emirati artist Hashel Al Lamki.

Dubai Design District curated a range of exhibitions, creative installations, murals, workshops all under the theme “Re-think Art”.

The final stop was Tashkeel where Senior Art Consultant Azza Anwar visited the exhibition “An Imaginary Portrait of Palestine” that was a video-based exhibition exploring the universal feeling of ‘loss of land’ through the expression of memories.

Hope you enjoyed coming along with us on our journey of Dubai Art Season so far. Follow the rest of the journey through our instagram posts & stories as we take you through more highlights of events going on around the city,
