Meet Julia Ibbini

The magic of Julia Ibbini’s work lies in the complexity and depth of her creative process, consisting of layering and re-layering digital works, collaging and overlying with varnishes, paints, crystals and pins. The result is a multi-coloured riot of colors that explores the emotional and intellectual components that form the ‘system’ we live in.

Jordanian-British, Julia Ibbini was born in the United Kingdom but has spent most of her life in the United Arab Emirates. She studied at Leeds College of Art and Design in the United Kingdom, graduating in 2002.

Having lived in Abu Dhabi for the past 27 years, Julia spends a lot of time wandering around the city and exploring the streets to find inspiration. Her work typically reflects a certain observation from a certain time. Each piece becomes a snapshot or an understanding or a question. Her art becomes a questioning process relating to certain socio-cultural systems around her. They focus on finding one’s place or belonging in the world and address the questions of identity and the universal struggle for a sense of identity.

She regularly curates exhibitions of locally based artists and was founder of the Abu Dhabi based arts collective ‘Fannan’. She was also one of the five artists commissioned by The Club to create a piece of art in celebration of their 50th Anniversary in 2012 and has also created artwork for the UAE’s 40th Anniversary celebration.

Julia has exhibited extensively across the UAE in both solo and group projects with recent exhibitions having been organised in collaboration with the Emirates Palace, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and with the Mojo Gallery in Dubai.

This Autumn Capsule Arts will launch a set of limited edition art prints by Julia Ibbini that will be available to purchase at capsulearts.com, for more details about her featured artworks and the launch collection sign up here.
