Capsule Arts artists featured in the RCA Secret Dubai 2015 exhibition

Now that the identities of the previously anonymous regional and internationally acclaimed artists and designers participating in the recent RCA Secret Dubai exhibition have been revealed, we can officially let you know which Capsule Arts artists were involved! A number of the artists that we work with for our limited edition print collection participated in the exhibition, submitting original postcard-sized artworks which were exhibited at Art Dubai last weekend. All these postcards were up for sale on Saturday 21 March for AED500, with sales proceeds going towards supporting students of the Royal College of Art.

Shi Jinsong's studio diary

This year thirteen artists were commissioned to create site-specific works for Art Dubai's largest and most diverse not-for-profit programme ever.  Capsule Arts were delighted to support the programme by having Artist Shi Jinsong create his new artwork in our studio in Al Quoz, Dubai. Unveiled on opening night the artwork evolved into a performance piece which saw visitors whisper into glass bottles before they were placed neck down into the trunk of a tree, preserving their thoughts. It's always a joy to see an artist work and the journey taken to produce the final piece. This particular piece being site specific was rather large and had it's own logistical challenges. Seeing an empty large warehouse fill with wood, sawdust, charcoal and broken glass is not something seen in everyday life, especially for many of our neighbours and people working in the area - it's fantastic to see them curious and ask questions.

Here's a look at our studio diary for Shi Jinsong's installation.

Artweek photo diary

It's been a busy couple of weeks in the UAE's arts scene, and it seems next year Dubai's Art Week may have to rename as Art Fortnight or Art month! It all started with the Sharjah Biennial 11, closely followed by Sikka Art Fair, then Design Days Dubai, and finally Art Dubai. In addition the UAE's art galleries presented an impressive line up of exhibitions, awards and events. With so much to see and talk about here's Capsule Arts visual diary of Art Week.
