Your casual family kitchen
Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi is one of the city’s most elegant and luxurious hotels and an iconic architectural landmark. Market Kitchen is inspired by Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s concept of the ‘hotel as a home’ and extends to the restaurant as a casual family kitchen.
Capsule Arts worked with the designer to create stylish artworks for the restaurant interior. The series of pieces commissioned reflect on two key elements of the Market Kitchen – its dining menu, and the popular wine bar.
A large artwork in the dining area, featuring cows painted over a landscape scene formed from newsprint, created a central feature in the restaurant. In a reflection of the prime steak offered on the Market Kitchen menu, one of these cows is in the style of a vintage illustration showing butcher’s cuts of beef.
In the wine bar we commissioned a series of original drawings of antique corkscrews by artist Viyay Narayan. Elsewhere a number of actual corkscrews were displayed, which were painted white and box framed to give them an elegant, contemporary style in keeping with the interior design.
Vijay Narayan was commissioned to create the pencil drawings of corkscrews. Vijay has been living and working in the UAE for many years, and his known for his detailed, figurative artworks. For the centerpiece artwork in the dining area, we worked with a leading British art studio.
