The taco-shop experience
La Tablita is a vibrant and lively Mexican restaurant brought to life with a quintessential ‘Taco Shop’ experience. This authentic eatery can be found in the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights in Dubai Healthcare City.
With all the chefs and waiters working in the restaurant hailing from Mexico, authenticity was an essential aspect of the project. In order to reflect this in the art, Capsule Arts took inspiration from Mexico’s heritage, its vibrant street art and some of its most famous artists.
Aside from commissioning art for the restaurant, the team was also involved in developing a series of architectural panels that add to the interior design.
As soon as visitors approach La Tablita, they are welcomed into a design story that runs throughout the venue. Capsule Arts worked with design collective, Caravan, to create a unique cut-metal design inspired by iconic Mexican patterns. Taking the form of a series of patterned panels, this design begins at the entrance doorway and continues through to the bar and the main restaurant, creating an immersive experience for guests.
Throughout the main restaurant and bar, artist Lama Khatib- Daniel created a number of original artworks that draw from Mexican culture. These include lively hand-drawn chalk illustrations; playful, street art-inspired paintings; and an original mixed-media painting as her ode to famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.
Capsule Arts worked with Spanish artist Ruben Sanchez for an original painting on reclaimed wood at the restaurant entrance, and artist Lama Khatib-Daniel for the pieces scattered throughout the main restaurant. Capsule Arts worked closely with the innovative UAE design collective, Caravan, to create the cut-metal design.
