Colonial influences in Fujairah
Modern yet colonial in its design, Bar Muda is the new lounge bar in Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa, which is nestled between the Hajar Mountains and the Indian Ocean.
Bar Muda underwent a complete renovation to give the interior design a fresh look referencing colonial style, in particular Africa and the West Indies.
Capsule Arts worked with MMAC Design Associates to provide artworks and accessories for the project, as well as a number of pieces of custom furniture and large-scale planters.
We selected a number of artworks relating to the overall theme, including historical photographs, old illustrations and antique-style maps, which were displayed as picture collages with a variety of framing styles.
A series of wall-mounted and freestanding authentic wooden accessories from Africa — such as masks, statues and shields — complemented the artworks. Capsule Arts also provided several items of furniture, including a floor standing globe and a series of custom-made rattan and wooden coffee tables.
Though the project did not feature any commissioned artists, we worked with a number of local furniture design companies to develop the custom items for the bar.
The masks were all authentic items sourced in the local market.
